My New Favourite Accessory :)
Yes, I’m a little behind on the whole watch thing (until recently, I thought watches were useless, and was convinced I did not want one because I had a phone to look at the time and it would be so pointless to get a watch..), but just this Christmas I discovered my new love for gold, rose gold, and silver things…in the form of watches.
It started on Christmas day. I received a rose gold Fossil watch from my sister as my gift and I immediately fell in love with it. Shortly after, I felt myself obsessing over watches, looking online at Michael Kors watches on the Nordstrom website, the Michael Kors one, and occasionally Amazon or Ebay. (What is wrong with me?! Going from detesting watches to obsessing over them. Go figure.) When my parents took a trip down south, I made sure to print some images of desired watches for my Mother, so she would know which particular styles I liked. Boy do I love my Mom. She returned from her trip with the Michael Kors watch on the left above..which btw, was on sale for only $150!
I’m thinking of a silver or black watch next….and don’t knock my materialistic ways, because usually I’m quite thrifty when it comes to shopping. (Example 1, Example 2). I think it’s fair to splurge on these classic watches which will never go out of style (at least I hope they won’t).
And that is how I received not one, but TWO watches over the Holidays. Stay tuned in the next couple of days to read about my $15 dresses from H&M and $23 oxford booties I recently purchased!

Happy New Year everyone!

Evolution of the Dress?

Lately I’ve had dresses on my mind (yes, dresses on my mind, it’s almost NYE, give me a break), so I thought it’d be fun to showcase the trends in dresses from the past few decades, to see how our fashion has evolved (or has it?), been recycled, and in some cases, been discarded.

Definition of evolution: The gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex or better form”. So according to this, if dresses have evolved, they have become “better” as the years have gone by. Let’s have a look if this is really true:

The 80’s and 90’s: Dresses from these years are categorized by bright colors, floral prints, big accessories, ruffles, rouching shoulders and draping material. In the 90’s baby doll dresses became popular, along with high waists and interestingly enough, the vintage/bohemian look.

2000 to 2011: What really defines this decade and a year of dresses, let alone fashion? Many claim that it’s a “mish mash” of the earlier years, with so many styles and trends from the 60’s to the 90’s recycled and reoccurring. I agree that there is no defining characteristic of style from this time period, but I think that it’s because we girls just want to feel comfortable in whatever we wear, whether it’s vintage, bohemian, glam chick, rocker, sophisticated, or casual. We’ve learned to take styles from different eras and time periods and adapt and integrate them into our own unique styles, much like what Eudostyle represents :)

If you have a closer look at dresses from 1980’s and 1990’s, their styles have been replicated—with slight alterations of course—by dresses in the 2000’s all the way until today. Let’s go through some examples:

  • There have been so many variations of the little black dress, a prominent one being the one shouldered dress, with straps being more complicated than the traditional Tarzan and Jane attire.
  • The bright colors that were big in the 1980’s are still, to some extent, popular today, but more so in a solid color than multi-colored (although color blocking is totally in).
  • The cute polka dot girl-next-door type of dress still exists, and again, so do many other variations of it, including all lace dresses, with cute cuts that are reminiscent of the 1960’s.
  • Floral prints are still worn today, and I’m not sure if they existed back then, but tribal prints seemed to be huge the last couple of summers.
  • Long draping material in front of dresses that were once so popular have been minimized on wrap dresses today, so they are more body-hugging and flattering (empire waists especially).
  • In my opinion, vintage style will always come and go, with the exception of …the velvet turtle neck dresses, which I do not think fares well in today’s fashion environment.
  • The mod style back in the day has made reappearance, especially in shapes of dresses, as well as the whole color blocking scheme. Today, lace dresses, lace tops, and lace tanks are all very popular, and I seriously don’t doubt that this lace-all-over look comes from an earlier era of fashion.
  • Finally, I would say that the once popular petticoats underneath dresses are no longer worn—except under the short skirts we girls wear for costumes during Halloween…! In today’s fashion scene, it ain’t better if it’s puffier.

In conclusion, we can confirm that fashion does indeed recycle itself, as exemplified by comparing the styles from 1980’s and 1990’s to today’s. At the same time, we have picked and chosen certain styles that we liked, and abandoned those styles that we don’t, to create what we know as stylish fashion today. I will leave you with these thoughts: Have our dresses really “evolved” according to the definition stated earlier? Will our fashion keep on “evolving”, as in will there be any new breakthrough fashion or styles, just like there were back in the day, or will fashion keep recycling itself, with alterations and variations here and there? Worth thinking about!

Secret Santa Shopping made Easy

Are you part of a Secret Santa gift exchange and are having difficulty thinking of gift ideas for your chosen person, or are having difficulty thinking of what to put on your own wish list (if you are part of something like an Elfster that allows you to create your own wish list)? If so, here are some great websites you might want to check out to generate ideas for what gifts to get others, as well as what you might want to include in your wish list..especially for those who are in a Secret Santa with a $50 or lower limit. This list is for the reasonably priced Secret Santas because let’s face it, no one wants to be putting designer purses, watches, shoes, and fancy winter jackets on your wish list..

This is Why I’m Broke- This is an online magazine compiled of gift ideas from many different websites. They are usually fun, unique, and types of gifts you would not normally think of or consider. As a warning, some items on this website are totally ridiculous! There are many knick knack patty wacks on this website, but it’s a great starting point!

Yanko Design Gift Guide - There are a wide selection of gifts on here, some of which you will probably never ever find a need for, but some that you might think would be cool to just have. The focus of this website is, as its name suggest, the design of the product. So expect to pay higher prices for more minimalistic and contemporary products.

Photojojo Store - This is more for your friend who loves photography, because everything on this website is somehow camera or photograph related. It’s pretty awesome, even if you are not a photographer.

Kate Spade Under $100 - I don’t know if your Secret Santa will be willing to order from this New York website, but browsing through this page gives you an idea of what you want, and then you will be able to adapt it to what your Secret Santa would be able to get here in Vancouver. Kate Spade stuff is so adorable!

CNET’s Gift Guide - There are tonnes of $50 or less gift ideas for your techy friends as well as for you to put on your own wish list. I didn’t know that I could get an ipod shuffle for only $46!

Sephora - Every girl’s fantasyland (or at least mine) to browse through for gift ideas. Though the bigger makeup sets are going to be $100+, you can still find some smaller items like eyeliners, eyeshadows, blushes, lip sticks, and mascaras for under $50.

These boots are made for walkin’

One of the things I love most about the cold season is (don’t laugh) that I get to wear boots. I prefer wearing long boots as opposed to ankle boots, but a boot is a boot is a boot! (or is it about..haha) There’s nothing more exciting—with a few exceptions—than buying the boots you’ve been eyeing for so long, and finally wearing them for the first time! But with such a large selection out there, how do you choose the right boot for you, or what matches with what you’ve got in your closet?

Here are some things worth considering when buying boots:

Color: Go for the boots that will match most of your denims and that you won’t try on with an outfit just to take them off. For example, if you are buying tall grey suede boots, be prepared to put a little more effort into finding an outfit that will match with them. On the other hand, browns, blacks, even shades of tan are the colors that will most likely be easiest to match.

Material: I’m a stickler for what type of material my boots are. I personally do not like wearing any suede boots, so I stay away from them. Case in point: About five or six years ago, I bought a pair of purple suede booties from Aldo….guess how much fun I had trying to match them with anything.

But if you’ve found a pair of suede boots that you adore, then kudos to you for making it work and working them into your unique eudostyle ;) I think that leather boots are the best, but I can live with boots that are made of synthetic materials, all of which I cannot name.

Style: For someone with more of a casual style (shopping, going to school, for some of us, work haha)the cowboy boots, the boots with the buckles, or the plain solid color black, brown, or [insert colour here] boots would be a solid choice. For a dressier look (dinner with your friends, going out, special events), I imagine a heeled or wedged boot would be more appropriate. I used to always associate rounded-toe boots with being more causal, and pointed-toe boots with being more formal…but I threw that theory out the window when I realized that so many of my casual boots are pointed toe. My preference? Pointier toe boots for sure…not elf shoe pointy of course.

Length: Like I said, I prefer longer boots, knee-high’s especially. Ankle boots are not the most flattering on me and they are by far my least favorite boot. That said, if you like ankle boots, some ideas on what to wear them with are: long skits, leggings, tights, or any tight pants that are easy to tuck into the boot.

Height of heel: This attribute of the boot is totally up to your personal preference, but I am a bit resistant to buying heeled boots, as I find that I do not wear them too often. If I want to wear something with a heel when I go out at night, it’s usually a pair of heels rather than boots with heels.

Having said that…here are three pairs of my sister’s boots (two of which are heeled/wedged) that I borrowed to showcase. Thanks eunipoo!

All this writing about boots has got me wanting to buy a new pair of boots. Booty, booty, booty, booty, rockin’ everywhere!

OMEGA Unveils New Boutique and The Planet Ocean Collection

Omega

Omega Speedmaster collection

I had the chance attend the unveiling event earlier tonight for the newly designed and expanded boutique right in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Though it was in a smaller space that was the new boutique, it was indeed a lavish affair. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served in the brightly lit boutique that is home to so many exquisite Omega watches. Many of the watches in store cost a small fortune but what else would you expect from such a world-renowned brand that is as highly recognized as it is.

I talked to a customer sales representative there who informed me that a watchmaker himself (or herself) builds an Omega watch from start to finish and this usually takes 6-9 months for each…No wonder these watches cost an arm and a leg! During the evening, guests had the chance to have a preview of the new Seamaster Plant Ocean collection which was “oohed” and “ahhed” over, and was a definite highlight of the night.

Other highlights of the night included:

    Omega Constellation collection
  • A watch I was introduced to as a “masterpiece of work”, which was from the Constellation collection and which costs a mere $150,000
  • Being introduced to the manager of the Omega boutique and thanking her personally for the lovely event
  • The imported beers that were served…along with your wines, cocktails, Perrier, etc.
  • Definitely the sweet swag bags that were given to guests when they left!!

I peeked inside the swag bag while walking out of the event, but waited until I was home to see what goodies were inside: a Lindt tube of chocolates, a travel bag for toiletries and makeup, the latest edition of Lifetime magazine, an Omega Seamaster ball point pen, and a pack of sugar-free candy :)

yes, I am drinking beer—stay classy.

Layering for Fall
I thought I’d share some fall layering looks, because during this time of year it can be difficult to decide what to wear with the deceiving weather looking so nice and sunny, but being so cold and…cold.
Not all of these outfits are going to be fitting for the colder days in the city, but I think that earlier in September, you could get away with any of these. When I was putting together these outfits, I wasn’t paying attention to the brand or name of the clothing. What was, and always is important to me, is the look of each outfit, because as we all know, there are a lot of similar clothes out there, it’s just up to you whether you want to pay $300 for them or $40-$50.
1. This outfit is obviously one of the ones I am referring to when I say “earlier in September”, because of the boyfriend jeans, as well as the leather jacket with only a top underneath (no sweater). I love wearing beanies, and regardless if you think this outfit is a yay or nay, I think it rocks because it’s a mixture of casual chic and definitely gives off the vibe that you know your fashion style. The red pumps really add a “va-va-voom” factor to this outfit, no?
2. Probably my favourite layered outfit of the bunch. I don’t know if I could get away wearing a fedora hat, but I love the idea of a slouchy cardigan worn over an oxford dress shirt/blouse, and cinched at the waist by a skinny belt. I had to add the deep red skinnys, to really pull together the look, plus if you didn’t know already, I love colored denim! And oxford shoes are my new favourite thing, so this outfit really defines my own personal style.
3. Similar to the 2nd outfit, I would totally wear this out for dinner, drinks, or even to work (depending on how casual my day is). My favourite item from this outfit has got to be either the riding boots, or the maroon colored blazer. And with neutral colors like the baggy beige t-shirt, you can mix and match different patterned bottoms including denim, leggings or jeggings.
4. This is a very simple yet elegant look for the office or a day out on the town. The black sweater dress can easily be replaced with a favourite dress, and depending on what style/color it is, you can transform this look into a nighttime, more casual look. Getting rid of the nylons would help with this too. Throw on a comfy and belted cardigan, that patterned scarf you love, and a pair of sexy booties, and you’ve got a perfect look for a fall day.
So go ahead and try layering what you’ve already got in your closet; chances are, there are some combinations of clothes in there that when styled together, will surprise you and be perfect outfits for the nippy fall/winter weather!

I was talking to my sister the other day, and the subject of makeup came up. We asked each other what makeup we could not leave the house without, knowing that usually we both wear at least a minimal amount of makeup when we leave the house. (I personally think that you can get away with a natural look when wearing minimal makeup, but that is a whole other discussion on its own..).
My top three makeup items that I would not leave the house without are:
1. Nars Orgasim Blush- $27
The name says it alll: this blush is orgasmic! Just peachy-pink enough, with some highlights of golden shimmer so that it’s not too matte. This is definitely one of the bare minimums of makeup for me; if I don’t have anything else, at least I won’t look pale and I’ll have a fresh glow!

2. Benefit Girl Meets Pearl Highlighter- $40
If you have not yet used the Benefit highlighter, you must give it a try! You can test the product out at Sephora, and see how much of a difference it makes! The consistency of this highlighter is almost like a foundation, whereby you can spread it across your cheeks. This highlighter is the perfect base for applying some bronzer or blush right on top of it, accentuating your cheeks and giving off more of a glow. Once I was introduced to Girl Meets Pearl (Thanks Nicovalchuck!), I immediately fell in love with it! Definitely an essential to have on before leaving the house.

3. Laura Mercier foundation primer- $30
I don’t use foundation a lot, but when I do, I will use either the Laura Mercier foundation, or the Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse. Both are effective in concealing dark spots and any blemishes, and they are light foundations that are not thick or too creamy to apply. I’m guessing that any sort of foundation is almost one of every girl’s essential makeup items that they wear before anything else.

4. Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express- $6.50
Out of the four products, I would say I replace the Falsies mascara the quickest…I can go through that thing in a few months, not even! I love my mascara, especially when I wear no eyeliner. I think it is better to wear more mascara than eyeliner, because too much eyeliner will make your eyes look dark and heavy…and not dark in a good way. The more coats of mascara you apply, the more voluminous and thick your lashes will appear. Even though I’ve listed this as #4, I would say it truly is my #1 favourite makeup product.

If this were just three years ago, I would probably have eyeliner as my top makeup product I couldn’t leave the house without :.…But with the appeal and attraction for a more “natural look” nowadays, I’ve traded in the heavy eyeliner for a more light and less intense look, that can easily be achieved by using the four items above!

So girls, I hope this has triggered you to think about what makeup you can’t leave the house without, or without wearing, and also how much product you actually put on your blank canvas! Remember: Less is More!

In addition to the American Apparel warehouse sale that took place over the weekend, Urban Outfitters had a pretty massive sale themselves. A friend of mine informed me last Thursday of the sale (thanks again Stefanie!), so I had to check it out for myself, seeing that Urban Outfitters is probably my favourite go-to place for sales.
So check this out: Urban Outfitters’ sale items were addition 50% off! Yes, it was madness and chaos upstairs in the sale section, but it was well worth if after finding a couple of cute tops that I loved.
Top#1 (Right-side): First top I got was the Sparkle and Fade Colorblock High/Low Blouse. I find it’s a great casual shirt that is still appropriate for work or going out for dinner/drinks.Price: This top was originally $70, and was on sale for $30, and because of the additional 50% off, I got it for a measly $15!

Top #2 (Left-side): The second top was the Kimchi Blue Lace Yoke Blouse. The neutral/floral print makes this top easy to match with blue, black, or grey denim. One thing that I was hesitant about was the fit of the shirt under the armpit. It felt a bit baggy, and when I lifted my arms up, the entire shirt would ride up…but that’s why I love tank tops! Throw one under this top, and you will solve the problem of mid-drift exposure.Price: This top was originally $60, but was only $20 on sale, so I paid $10! I love finding a good deal!
Unfortunately, I don’t know how long the Additional 50% Off sale is on for… I’m assuming it’s going to be until they clear out a lot of their sale section. But with Christmas coming up, I am sure there will be sales starting up in many retail stores.
But yes, this post just goes to show that it is possible to buy items for cheap at Urban Outfitters (which many accuse of being too over-priced). Check out the awesome sale section on the Urban Outfitters website.
